The best peel-off stuffs for nails: Let the peel-off face off begin!

$

Have you been wondering all like "what's that purple stuff?" or "how do I make that peely stuff" when you see other nail artists just peeling back some polish mess off their fingers? I HAVE THE ANSWERS FOR YOU!! And not only that, but I've evaluated 6 different products and hosted a face-off between the peel-offs to help you decide which one you should buy, or if you should even buy one at all!

Let's get straight to it: Make sure you watch the whole vid below (click the MORE button!) if you wanna hear about my final evaluation ;)

VIDEO TUTORIAL RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW !

Why did I just waste weeks of my life filming and editing this video? 'Cause I get 2740270464 questions a day about the "peel off stuff I use around my nails", and apparently just referencing it in my FAQ section was not enough. That's okay, I don't blame ya, I too was confused about all these peel-off products out there that are all the rage. Acetone and an angled eyeliner brush are a THING OF THE PAST, LADIES!

Peel-off stuffs for your finger are truly a revolution. We all know I am obsessed with gradients, which are one of the most annoying types of nail arts to clean up, fo sho. Watermarbling is probably messier but... I WOULDN'T KNOW HAHAHA.

I'm gonna keep most of my thoughts on each product to the vid, but here is my summary version.

Remember that the 1-6 rankings aren't product-specific; I ranked them relative to all the other products. So for example, Simply Peel was given a 6 (top points) for effectiveness at peeling off, and Liquid Palisade was given a 5 because it was my next favourite in line. Then the Nail Veil got the 4, DIY peel-off base got the 3, and so on until the one I ranked the worst in the effectiveness category (liquid latex from Amazon).

(all prices in $USD, as of March 29, 2015)

Overall, I think Simply Peel is the most well-rounded product across all categories. It works well, it glitters when it's dry so it's easy to know when you can start being messy, it has a wide brush, a little bit more product in the actual bottle (15ml vs. 8-10ml on the others), and it's the only latex product designed for nails that offers a bulk size option. The 60ml refill bottle will retail at $29.99 which, at $0.49/ml, makes it the cheapest latex product designed for nails. The bulk size bottle is not currently available yet at Nail Care HQ, but keep checking back and it should be listed in coming weeks/months. For now I recommend trying out a regular-sized bottle first so you can make sure you love it too! :)

The other reason why I love this product is because it is made by a brand that I trust. I have almost all of Nail Care HQ's aka Bliss Kiss' products, including my favourite nail and cuticle oil, the Simply Sealed lotion stick, Simply Satin whipped body fluff, and glass nail file. If you wanna know more about my nail care routine, check out my Nail Care page.

Liquid Palisade is that well-recognized "purple stuff" we're seeing all up in nail art tutorial land. It goes on a lighter creamy purple and dries a dark purple with a touch of shimmer, so it's easy to know it's dry. It has my favourite brush because it's super thin and short, which allows me to trace the border of my nail with precision. This may not be ideal for everyone though, such as those who do watermarbles (it would take a lot longer to paint large sections of your skin with the tiny brush). Overall this is a GREAT product though, but the only thing that can't be disputed is the high cost. It's by far the most expensive (in fact it's more than double the cost per ml of any other product reviewed here). The $22.00 price tag indeed deters some people, but if money is no object to you then definitely go be an asshole and buy this :D It says it lasts for 50 manis (I think I go through it a bit faster than that), but if you're rich then who cares?!?!

Liquid Palisade latex barrier review
Liquid Palisade by Kiesque

The Nail Veil from Color4Nails fell more or less in middle on every indicator. I mean, it does what it's supposed to do (dry and peel off the polish mess in one pull), it's just that some of the other products did it better, either because it took so long to dry (7.5min) or because it had a super long brush that was too flexible making it difficult for me to contour my nail.

Some might experience shorter drying times than I have in my little experiment - I actually intentionally lay all these products on thick because this decreases the chance of the product breaking up into pieces as you go to pull it off. Generally speaking, the thicker you make it, the better it will peel off in one thick coat. So maybe while others have had the Nail Veil dry in a couple mins, it's probably because they put on a much thinner coat, and maybe had some stragglers as a result, as I've experienced in the past. Lesson learned: when in doubt LAY IT ON THICK.

This liquid latex I got off Amazon was supposed to be one of those cost-saving efforts where you buy the actual ingredient used in all the other nail-specific products but... it failed. Liquid latex is commonly used in costume body art or something weird like that. Then polish companies realized it served a purpose for nail art cleanup and BAM liquid latex product explosion. In any case, this particular product arrived in my mailbox completely dried up as one solid lump of latex. It ain't liquid. I suppose I could have contacted the company and asked for a fresh functional one, butttt I'm lazy af.

Liquid latex barrier review
Liquid Latex off Amazon

Lots of people are under the impression that an alternative to the liquid latex products is some DIY Elmer's glue and water. Let me just burst that bubble: NOPE. I don't care how many tweens comment "IT'S JUST GLUE AND WATER DUH" under tutorials on Instagram where someone was so clearly using a liquid latex product, they wrong!!! Let's just turn to science for a second here: Liquid latex is latex. Glue and water is glue and water. The chemicals used to make glue are NOT the same as what's in liquid latex. So it shouldn't be that much of a surprise that one doesn't work quite like the other.

In short, glue and water (or even just glue alone) methods may work as DIY peel off base coats, but they just don't get the job done when it comes to creating a barrier for your skin. The glue mix peels up in pieces, it's too thin, it breaks, it takes forever to dry, and ARG IT'S SO MESSY TO PUT ON. Don't be a cheap ass and just spend your next two to three Starbucks fancy lattes on a real liquid latex product for nails instead of resorting to this poor excuse for anything helpful. SAY NO TO ELMER. HE IS NOT OUR FRIEND.

And finally, we have the pink one. For such an enthusiastic product (it's name is "Mess no More!" by "Mini... Mani... Moo!!") with too much punctuation, I was not enthusiastic about its application or effectiveness. It had a weird eyeshadow applicator-like brush that was not helpful in getting in the crevices around your nail, it peeled off thin and flimsy, and it even left little pink furry things and a stain behind on my skin. Why cow, why???

This product is apparently available in latex-free if you specify on your order, which has me questioning its overall effectiveness even more. I realize that some people are allergic to latex (sorry dears), but unfortunately for y'all liquid latex products are THE MOST EFFECTIVE for peeling off. I guess the fact that Mess no More peeled off more like the glue mix makes sense then, if there's less or no latex in it (I'm not even sure which version I have, it doesn't say).

Mess no more latex barrier review
Mess no more! by Mini Mani Moo!!

A note about smell:
A lot of peeps comment on how these latex products smell rank. Yes, I agree, they don't smell like roses, but neither does acetone or nail polish. I'm pretty used to strange chemical smells inhaling so much nail polish and all, so the weird chemically-fishy smell of the latex products aren't too bad. I didn't notice any one of them smelling any "better" than the others, except the glue, which just smells like glue (go figure), or the liquid latex that wasn't liquid cause it was solid. It didn't smell as bad... cause it was ALL DRIED OUT.

Da final scores:

Remember that these are all ranked relative to each other for each of the four categories

Back to the nailz..... just a simple continuous gradient, with three colours on each nail, and where the last colour on the end of the nail starts at the base of the next one :) Perfectly simple for summah!! If it will ever come... there's still snow in my backyard (Canada)... so summer probably won't come at this rate.

Phew that was a post and a half!!

Disclaimer time: All reviews are my opinion, and I was not paid by any companies to say one thing or another. If a company sends me a product (in this case almost all the products* I used were sent to me for review), I will review it honestly - it doesn't matter that it was 'gifted' to me! This is stated in my Disclosure Policy. To the companies who saw a less than favourable review here - I hope you don't take my humorous stabs as anything too personal, I like to have a little fun with my reviews (evidently). Please know that I wholly respect your businesses and was only offering my opinion on the particular products reviewed here.

To all my friends looking for the right peel-off product: Ultimately it's up to you! Use the ratings I've offered above to help inform your decision. All in all I do recommend purchasing a liquid latex product designed for use with nails. Reason being is that these nail companies know what we need - the size of the bottle, the brush style, how the brush cap can easily be held for nail-area painting, and so on. Don't be fooled by Elmer - he's slimy and misleading. I've gone far too long using the stupid acetone and an angled eyeliner brush clean-up method, and now I'm mostly wondering this: LIQUID LATEX, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?????

4MIN VIDEO TUTORIAL CAUSE SURPRISE:
(see also 15sec versions on Instagram here and here)

Better watch it - there's a surprise mini-tutorial-in-a-tutorial about finding the best white nail polish!

I got most of the coloured polishes from Live Love Polish, my fav go-to destination for holos-a-plenty, but they also have a bunch of cremes (neons and pastels!) that I think I'll crack out this spring/summer season, whatd'ya think?

In the video I have a surprise mini tip on making your own white super opaque polish. And no, it doesn't involve any chemistry, PHEWWW.

Not that there isn't any value in jelly/milky white polishes, but I dunno about you, for every one time I might actually want a milky white, there's 100 times I want a super opaque white. Wtf do you do with a milky translucent white polish when you're trying to make a bright white opaque base for nail arting?! MILKY WHITE POLISH IS ANNOYING AF I'M TELLING YOU. So a quick workaround is to just use a 'french tip' polish as I explain in the video ;)

Some of my white polishes.... :\
And here's my half-franken but not really cause I didn't actually mess with the polish that much teehee! It's Color Club 'French Tip' but with a switched out brush cause the french tips brushes are too thin! As you see in the video, it's basically a one-coater! Just add a little nail polish thinner to dilute the formula since the french tip formulas can get a bit thick.

Love this neon pink even though I hate pink!!! She's Models Own 'Sun Hat' from Live Love Polish!

I'm holding Floss Gloss 'Lean'! What a gorgeous vibrant purple, hmm?

YASSS glitter! This is one of Twinkled T's loose glitter drops bottles!

Another girly mani, what's wrong with me?!? Actually it's pastel/simple nails week for the weekly nail art challenge (WNAC) I co-host on Instagram along with lovely ladies Kristin of Lacquerstyle and Tracey of MissBellaTracey. Okay so the prompt was supposed to be 'simple', but I never listen to rules, right? I wouldn't call this simple, but it's also not as complex as some of my gradient insanity soooo therefore it's simple.

I used a couple new polishes from Live Love Polish including a new Floss Gloss one and one from Models Own! New brands to me, and I'm lovin' them!

I used a striping brush from Born Pretty Store and dotting tools from Live Love Polish. These are pretty Eastery if you ask me... but Easter = chocolate, so yay!!!

You grab some direct from FUN Lacquer (ships from Singapore) or from one of their stockists. I personally love to order from Live Love Polish, where you'll find this whole collection available for pre-order right now (which means you'll guarantee it'll be yours - they sell out so fast!) many other FUN's, and a bunch of other must-have indie holos!!

This collection includes eight gorgeous new polishes that represent the different types of love we experience in our lives including the love for partner, parents, siblings and friends. There's four unique shades that each come with a holo glitter twin, of course!

First up, Storge! She's a vibrant purple multi-chrome that shifts to reddish-pink to a burnt orange. Super elegant and striking all at the same time. This is three thin coats and you can really see just how pigmented she is when layered over Philia on my accent nail! Some might think she's similar to FUN Lacquer's 'Reunion' from the New Year's collection, but she is far more warm purple learning and the shift to reddish/burnt orange is not the same as the pink shift in Reunion.

This exuberant rich golden olive beauty is Philia, representing the love between friends. Apparently 'philia' is Greek for the love between friends but... I don't know about you, but whenever I hear the word 'philia', all I see is as a suffix appended to a bunch of other terms used to describe psychopathic and/or abnormal and/or criminal behaviours, including but not limited to: gerontophilia (sexual preference for the elderly), pedophilia (sexual attraction to children), or zoophilia (sexual fixation on animals). This is probably just because of the seven years or so I spent majoring in Criminology/Sociology, or just because I have a sick twisted mind, but either way that's what this polish makes me think of - YAY!! Either way, it's dead sexy to me and I might just have to diagnose myself as a funlacquerphile.

Eternal Love is the token blurple shifter. She shift from a blue-teal to royal blue to indigo to a vibrant magenta-purple! Some might think she's close to Blessing from the New Year's collection, but she's far less green-leaning and way more blue.

It's a fight between Eternal Love above and Unconditional Love right here for my fav of the collection... While I'm a sucker for teal/blue/purple polishes, this pink to gold shifter has me so excited! She shifts from a vibrant magenta-red through copper to yellow to even shades of olive greens! One might think she's similar to Celebrate from the New Year's collection, but she is far more red-leaning and I actually think the shift in this one is much stronger. Instead of stopping at orange, she goes all the way to yellows and greens. Pretty freakin' amazing all that shifty shifty power!

FUN Lacquer 2015 Love collection

Overall I'm loving the composition and quality of this collection! I'm a sucker for strong colour-shifting multi-chromes, and especially ones that are quite opaque like these. Even though I did three coats with all of them, there's a couple in here I could have gotten away with only two coats they're that thick. My third coat was usually just applied as a safeguard for even brush strokes.

Some might think this collection is similar to FUN Lacquer's last collection, New Year 2015 (see swatches and review here) but each polish either has a different base colour or the colour shift is different. If you're looking for a purple multi-chrome for example, I'm not sure you need to buy both Reunion and Storge because they are similar, but at least now you have even more options if you haven't nabbed any of these awesome multi-chromes yet. Now you can choose if you want a blurple to pink shift or a purple to reddish shift ;)

You can find these beauties at FUN Lacquer's store directly (ships from Singapore), or at Live Love Polish (ships internationally from USA), one of my fav stockists with a great selection of indies and mainstream polishes. Remember that this collection is limited edition which means they won't be here forever. It's possible that once they sell out of what they have now, that's it! Live Love Polish puts these along with some other FUN's on pre-order so customers can ensure they get exactly what they want. If you're always wanted to try a FUN Lacquer multi-chrome or any of the FUN's for that matter, now is your chance to nab them before they're gone!

Canadian Ice: A vibrant blue with micro-flakies custom polish!

$

Today I've got a different kind of post for ya, a nail polish collaboration with Beyond the Nail! A couple months they contacted me to design a custom polish along with a nail vinyl. I had always thought a zipper vinyl was something that was missing from the vinyl world, and now we have one!

My initial vision for the polish was a vibrant cobalt blue jelly like Cirque's Midsummer Night, but with instead of pink shimmers, I envisioned loads of iridescent baby blue shimmer flecks, like the shimmer in Ozotic's 903. The end result colour is pretty close to what I was picturing, but the composition turned out more of a tiny micro-flakie rather than iridescent shimmer that would catch your eye. Maybe it's the jelly consistency muting the little flecks, I don't know, I'm no nail polish mixer I just put it on mah nailz.

I named it 'Canadian Ice' cause I saw it and said "hey it looks like ice chips, eh?" to myself and in saying that I realized I'm such a Canadian saying eh all the time. So being really creative and all I went with Canadian Ice.

Here's some bottle shots so you can analyze with your mad nail polish knowledge skillz:

As you can see the little flakies show up much clearer up against the inside of the glass polish bottle. Once I lift them up on the brush for some #simplynailporn they kind of hide under the jelly. Flakies I don't think you ready for this jelly???

Back to the nails! I ended up having to apply four thin coats to get it as deep as it is in the photos. Three coats could have done it, but there were sheerer patches along the sides that looked weird, so in my opinion a fourth coat was needed to fully cover the entire nail in equal coats of blue.

Here's the zipper vinyl guide sheet - there's 28 decals and they retail at $6.00USD. Except I'm Canadian... and so is Beyond the Nail...? This means if you're American these are $6.00 and if you're Canadian then these are like $2774047506550. DAMN YOU EXCHANGE RATE!

I'm pretty happy with how the decals came out - I messed around with them on my ring nail and I kinda wish I'd just left it simple like the others but ah well. The nail art game got me.

I paired the blue with Gosh's 'Silver' to keep things simple.

< < < Watch the video tutorial for the accent nail on Instagram here

Overall this polish is definitely unique, I don't see many rich jellies with such micro-flakies in them. I love the colour of it, and I love the vinyl too! In the end I'm kind of underwhelmed though, maybe it's just cause it's not sparkly or flashy enough... WHY NO HOLO? Holo is pretty much my staple so now I'm kicking myself for not ensuring it would be holo. Ah well, I have like 20744407462074 holo polishes, do I really need another? Um yes lol.

You can check out Canadian Ice at Beyond the Nail's online shop - don't forget to check out the polishes of some of my fellow bloggers as well! I have to say I'm loving Kristin from Lacquerstyle and Tracey from Miss Bella Tracey's polishes!

Let me know your thoughts - do you love this polish? For yourself? What about for me? ;)

Pastel neon ikat nailz

Some edgier nails than my last couple pastel annoying girly nails cause nails should be BADASS not CUTESY. It's ikat week for the weekly nail art challenge (WNAC) I co-host on Instagram along with lovely ladies Kristin of Lacquerstyle and Tracey of MissBellaTracey. What's ikat you ask? Idk, some pattern where people drew shapes then scribbled out of the lines and it became a trend.

I used four different pastel neon polishes for this look, from Color Club and Maybelline, along with some black and white acrylic paint. Links to all the products below!

1MIN OR LESS VIDEO TUTORIAL:

Please open the YouTube link to see the list of all the products used with links to them in the video description box :D

How striking and perf for summah, amirite?! I've seen tons of these kinds of large triangle-ish shaped ikat designs done on nails before, and I wasn't inspired by anyone in particular. I just thought it was a MUST that there be a gradient as the base cause I can't quit you gradient, I CAN'T QUIT YOU. And then I really loved this particular pastel neon colour combo of yellow-orange-peach-coral after having done this simple rainbow gradient nail art, and I wanted to focus on this colour scheme!

I used two of the new Color Club pastel neons (Hot-hot-hot pants and Disco's not dead), plus two of Maybelline's bleached neons (Citrus collide and bleached in peach), the latter of which I'm pretty sure are discontinued, so you're better off collecting all the Color Club pastel neons before they fly off the shelves too :p

I used my trusty Simply Peel to protect my nail while doing the gradient part. Have you seen my video review of this product along with 5 of its competitors? Watch it now on YouTube!

Simply Peel Latex Barrier

Look at that spongy colourful goodness! It's just a triangular latex-free cosmetic sponge I got from my local drug/grocery store. I just cut off the skinny thin edge of the triangle for a width that's the perfect size for my nails!

In love with this colour scheme! And it's not even evil at all!

Polishes used:
- Maybelline Color Show 'Citrus collide' (yellow pastel neon creme)
- Color Club 'Disco's not dead' (light orange pastel neon creme)
- Maybelline Color Show 'Bleached in peach' (orange pastel neon creme)
- Color Club 'Hot-hot-hot pants' (coral pastel neon creme)
- Color Club 'French tip' (white creme - find it here)
- Black and white acrylic paints from my local craft store

I Love Nail Polish 2015 Spring Collection

Spring supposedly happened a while back but it's still under 0 degrees C where I am (Ottawa, Canada), so therefore I'M NOT LATE WITH THIS COLLECTION AT ALL. I bring you the new-ish I Love Nail Polish (ILNP) Spring 2015 collection, ten stunning shades in all!

Well actually there's 12 shades in this collection but the missing two from here are two new additions to ILNP's staple multi-chrome mega-epic flakies! I'm saving them for some flakie spam later on (for past ILNP flakie spam, see this blog post).

UGH HOW LUXE IS THIS COLLECTION AMIRITE? It's so rich I felt like a pauper just handling them.

ILNP was far TOO generous to me this round, there were 27 polishes in my package! (10 seen here + 17 multi-chrome flakies) - WAT. With that said I just couldn't find the time to swatch every single one of them, and I would really hate to only swatch a few from this collection cause the colour palette - WOW. Can't cut anything out. NEED ALL THEM PRETTY COLOURS. So I just did macro swatches of all of them instead, and of course some brush porn.

MMMM SPRING HAS NEVER LOOKED SO SEXY.

Swatch conditions:

Let us begin with Mega (S), a reincarnation of the original Mega and Mega (L). I swatched Mega (L) back with the rest of ILNP's Fall 2014 collection, and I do agree with the rest of the nail polish world in that Mega (S) is more holo than the others, in other words, I think this basically just means it has more holographic spectraflair pigment. I think? What the hell is nail polish made of again? You mean not unicorn blood and rainbows?

This is three coats with no undies! BAM RAINBOWS IN YO FACE.

Flower Girl is a new delicate light rosy pink shade perfect for springtime. It's described as a refined and classy, soft vintage pink linear holographic with gold flakes. I can definitely see the gold flakes in this number, and I think that's sets this polish apart from all the other rosy pink holos in the land! It's pretty and pink and sparkly and rainbowy, what's not to love??

Not all that spring-y to me, here's Abundance (H), the holo twin to the original Abundance ultra-chrome from ILNP's Fall 2014 collection. ILNP often releases a holo version of their ultra-chromes, and I guess it was Abundance's time! She's a rich copper brown that shifts from a deepened red through to burnt orange to dark yellow and olive tones. With added scattered fine holo, of course!

Here's Peri Me, a delicate light blue linear holo with a hint of rainbow. I'm told if I look closely I'll see gold flakes and red micro-shimmer and... I think I see it! Do you? Extremely subtle, but it's there. This polish is definitely spring-y, and likely suitable for all the bridezillas out there getting married and wanting something blue or whatever *yawn*. In any case, it's not my fav of the bunch because it's subtle and not dramatic and we all know the best nails are badass nails.

Who's famous? You are! If you put this polish on! Fame is a completely new formula to ILNP (I think), it's fascinating and full of excitement I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO BEGIN. It's base colour is a lightened gold, almost a white-gold tone, with loads of different sized silver and gold flakes. On top of all that dimension it's soaked in linear holo pigment that blinds you to the true death if you weren't already dead by flakies. I ain't sayin' she's a gold digger, but this polish ain't no regular glitter.

Be quiet, there's ultra-chromes coming! Hush is the sex baby of ILNP's Sirene and Bifigierence. She's smack in the middle of the green-blue colour spectrum, glowing a vivid and rich teal colour. This polish shifts from a magenta-pink to warm purple, through to blue and then to teal. This is three thin coats with no undies! She reminds me of FUN Lacquer's Blessing (but Blessing leans more green), or Eternal Love (which leans more blue).

And Hush gets her own holo twin of course - Hush (H)! Same gorgeous magical shiftiness but with added scattered holo sparklies.

Timeless Vow is a refreshingly unique surprise in this collection! A lot of people think pastel pinks, purples and blah for spring, but this elegant sage green holo polish kicks all those girly colours in the ass. Loaded with golden flakes, this polish ain't for girls, it's for WOMEN! Who rule the world.

And you thought Black Orchid from ILNP's Fall 2014 collection was the richest magenta-purple-wine colour ever... NOPE. Open your mouths and drool for Poetry, ILNP's latest most vibrant polish possibly ever. This is definitely my new fave purple holo polish. LOOK AT IT I MEAN WTF HOW DO YOU EVEN GET LIQUID SO VIBRANT IDK??? It's much more pink-leaning than Black Orchid, and it appears to have tiny red/pinkish flecks in it, I think?? AHH HELP I'VE BEEN KIDNAPPED BY THIS COLOUR.

And last we've got Happily Ever After to make you feel all happy and mushy inside. SNAP OUT OF IT AND DANCE WITH THIS EPIC HOLO FLAKIE! She's a soft lavender linear holo loaded with silver (or maybe even lilac?) flakies! Ahhhh imma die this is the perfect combination of girly pretty with BADASS SPARKLIES and it might just be my new fav purple. Wait didn't I just say that about the last purple? Ah fack.

Enjoy the feast of ILNP's Spring 2015 collection! Put this as your Facebook cover page cause you love it so much!

Are you obsessing over the epicness of the colour scheme of this collection yet? Overall I love this collection, I definitely think it's way more unique and my style than their 2014 spring collection, but a lot of this is personal preference in colours of course. I have nothing bad to say about the formulas, I love them all (three coats each), and I was particularly surprised by the uniqueness of the two new super-flakie packed stunners, Fame and Happily Ever After. If you can only pick up a couple from this collection, you MUST get one of these two, or else we can't be friends.

You can find your faves from this collection (or hey, get them all) from ILNP directly (ships internationally out of the US). Who can't wait to see what they have in store for summer?? MEEEEE.

Round gradient cyclone: don't get sucked in

So I did this mani back in January shortly after my middle nail saw the true death, which explains my much shorter nails in these pics. Idk why it took me forever to edit these up - wait I do know - I have no time thanks to NAIL PORN it's the hottest thing on the street, don't cha know?

In any case enjoy these round gradient neon pink and purple nails topped with a black cyclone. Reminds me of Cheshire the cat from Alice in Wonderland. I like cats so, makes sense.

(see also 15sec version on Instagram)

Excuse my ghostly jaundice-plagued skin tone, blame the intense neon for scaring the fack out of my camera.

I used the original cyclone nail vinyls from Twinkled T to create the spiral look and Liquid Palisade cuticle protector (the purple stuff) to protect my skin from the gradient sponging. Have you seen my review of 6 peel-off cuticle protector products yet? Check it out here!

Cyclone nail vinyls from Twinkled T

This is how small of a section of sponge I used to work around the nail to create the circle gradient effect:

That's all for now! Now go lay down, you're dizzy.

Polishes used:
- Cult Nails 'Nevermore' (black creme)
- Cult Nails 'Tempest' (white creme for base, not pictured)
- Finger Paints 'Pop art purple' (neon magenta purple)
- Orly 'Beach cruiser' (neon pink)
- Ceramic Glaze 'Tropical guava' (light neon pink)

Bleached neon stripes and directional chevrons: Summahhhhh time

Get directional! How's about some fun neon nails with black arrows cause IT SHALL BE SUMMER SOON THE WEATHER GODS TELL ME. For this week's weekly nail art challenge (WNAC) that I co-host on Instagram along with lovely ladies Kristin of Lacquerstyle and Tracey of MissBellaTracey, the theme was pastel and the prompt was chevrons! Obviously I never really follow rules you know me soon let's just pretend that bleached neons = pastel, mmk?

I used the entire Maybelline Bleached Neons collection (so summer 2014, I know) and single chevron nail vinyls from Nail Vinyls to create this summer easy and eye-catching look!

You best watch the video below cause I talk it in again... oh boy here we go.

VIDEO TUTORIAL RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW !

4MIN-ISH VIDEO TUTORIAL CAUSE I TALK TOO LONG:

For products used in video please see the YouTube description box! (open the video in YouTube)

I am aware that this design is nothing unique, but I couldn't put my finger on where I might have seen something like this before. Well that's not true, neon vertical stripes down the nail have been done 294704740747 times, but I can't remember seeing anyone do black single directions chevrons down the nail like this... I could be wrong? Let me know cause IDK OBV.

How's about we take a look at just the neon-ness stripes first:

I used one of striping brushes from my Winstonia 'Something Blue' brush set! There's 15 brushes in all, it's a great deal and I love the quality! After all my acetone abuse they really hold up :p

Winstonia striping brush

Yogourt lids make the best polish palettes! Don't recycle them... keep them for your nails MUAHAHAH

Back to the feature mani + black chevrons! It's way more my style than the basic stripes cause EDGY YASSS. Also the geometric trippyness is something I like too, obv.

If you have a really great memory then you may recall the last time I used the full set of Maybelline Bleached Neons in my trippy directional corner gradient mani! Totally in love with the formulas of these polishes, they just the right thickness and mmm oh so creamy!

Alright now it's your turn to talk at me: Should I talk more in my videos or is that just a waste of my entire weekend when I could be painting more nail art??? :p

Polishes used:
- Cult Nails 'Nevermore' (black creme)
- Color Club 'French tip' (white thick creme - get it here!)
Maybelline Color Show 'Bleached Neons' limited edition collection (most have vanished but there's some still on Amazon!):
- 'Citrus collide' (yellow creme)
- 'Bleached in peach' (orange creme)
- 'Coral heat' (orange-coral creme)
- 'Pink punch' (pink creme)
- 'Ultra violet' (purple creme)
- 'Day glow teal' (turquoise-blue creme)
- 'Lime accent' (green creme)

Enchanted flakies: Magical hidden wonders of the world

$

Ohhhh mahhh gawdddd more multi-chrome flakies, shocker!!! Well it is the year of the flakies after all so... it was to be expected that the elusive indie line Enchanted Polish release a flakie collection!! Inspired by I dunno, I'm going to guess enchantment, these six flakies with an added splash of fine holo are enough to save that annoying princess from the tower or whatever!! They are truly magical and their smaller flakie size and super fine holo sets them apart from some of other flakies out there. But don't make me choose a favourite - I NEED AND LOVE THEM ALL.

 Here's the six piece collection:

Flakie tower!
Flakie nail porn right here mmhmmmm:

Swatch conditions:

First up, Pegasus! She's got a warm yellow-brown to olive green shift to her, so elegant and rich like the chocolate of rich people. Or so I imagine super rich people eat chocolate this colour that has magical colour-shifting properties and is also holo, obv. In any case, look at that fine linear holo!! See what I'm talking about!

Next we've got Unicorn! This one has a much stronger colour shift, ranging from a vibrant orange/pink/purple flakie mix all the way to olive greens and yellows on the flash. This flakie polish is more diverse in composition than Pegasus since she's got a couple different colours in there, aside from the shifty part! Again with beautiful linear holo throughout. UNICORNS DIED FOR THIS.

Fairy is the token purple flakie of the bunch. She's kind of a blurple (blue-purple) flakie that shifts to a magenta on the flash. I feel like the holo is stronger in this one, though maybe it's just my mind playing tricks on me because the base colour is darker. Who knows, them fairies are sly mother flakers.

Rawr, it's a Dragon! Super strong shiftyness going on here!! Goes straight from a burnt copper/reddish flakie to a vibrant olive green. Gorgeous and just like dragons!! I think. Never seen one in real life but on Mario Party or Nintendo or whatever I always imagined the dragons as holo... not 8 bit.

What would an enchanted flakie collection be without a Mermaid? Not so much shifty-shifty in here, she's more a mixed-coloured flakie if you ask me. Look closely and you'll see hints of blue, green, teal, yellow, ahhhh I just drowned in a sea of flakies.

Last up, the token green to purple shifter, Siren! She's gotta be my fav of the bunch... no wait I really loved Dragon... but Unicorn too.. ARHHH WHATEVER I ALREADY HAVE THEM ALL SO MUHAHAH. What a gorgeous bright purple shift to a teal-ish emerald green.

Here's some more flakie collage porn cause why not:

Some look more holo to me than others... but some maybe not at all? Arg I can't even tell the difference anymore FLAKIES GOT MAH BRAIN.

Finally a close-up of my accent nail! This one was inspired by a tutorial I saw on Lucy's Stash - love the 3D box idea but in this case I was going for a stained-glass window feel. Flakies helped me do the trick! Watch the video tutorial over on my Instagram page.

I would say you can pick these up from Enchanted Polish but it appears every single one is sold out right now, lol woops. See, this is what I meant by elusive - they are super hard to find but if you do manage to track one down, you better grab it before it runs away to play with magical invisible unicorns in a castle far far away.

Overall this was a pretty sweet and flakie/holo-filled collection and you know me, I just love all that exuberant excess! I don't think any of these are a dupe for other flakies I have, but I guess I'll just have to do a true comparison one of these days don't I? ;)

Classy ivory lace over white gold flakie base

HELP I'VE BEEN KIDNAPPED AND SOMEONE SLAPPED SOME CLASSY LACE NAILS ON ME. I have no idea what happened srsly, where are the colours?? The gradients?? The in yo-face BOLDNESS?? Nope, it's not there. It's 'pastel floral' week for this week's weekly nail art challenge (WNAC) that I co-host on Instagram along with lovely ladies Kristin of Lacquerstyle and Tracey of MissBellaTracey, and obvious I was like WHY THE EFF DID I AGREE TO THIS I HATE FLOWERS AND PASTEL. So this was what I came up with... a very unusual interpretation of that theme, obviously.

WHITE GOLD CHROME FLAKIE + HOLO BASE MAKES THIS MANI ACCEPTABLE TO ME. I drew inspiration from a random Sephora make-up bag I got ages ago in some kit I got cause I thought it would make me glowy and flawless or whatever. The only thing glowy and flawless about me now is that I used FUN Lacquer's epic PayDay (H) white gold chrome flakie linear holo polish under the mani... ALDJF;JA;JA;F;JA' classy flashy bitch right hurrr.

So, erm yeah, how come it seems just as easy as buying one of those overly fancy tiny detail nail art brushes in elaborately pretty packaging to make amazing detailed nail arts?? As I found out, this is not how it works. My lines aren't nearly as skinny as the lines some of the other girls can do, I DUN UNDERSTAND. The paint brush is skinny tho?? WHAT AM I DOING WRONG.

Freehand definitely isn't for everyone I guess... I'VE BEEN PRETENDING TO KNOW HOW TO PAINT ALL ALONG, GOTCHA APRIL 24TH FOOLS. K no but seriously, you're still a nail artist even if you can't paint for shit in my books. There's so many other techniques out there that require serious skill that don't involve a stupid skinny paint brush! Forge forward, abstract art sistahs!

Mentality jelly chromes - put the shimmer in your spring!

Swatchy swatch swatch time with a totally new formula to me, "jelly chromes"?!? huh?

These three new Mentality 'jelly chromes' are from Harlow & Co., an international indie nail polish store! They have an awesome selection of the other Mentality jelly chrome polishes, including the darker 'Tetrachromes' line! So basically I gather that they are jelly-ish in texture cause they a tad translucent on the first coat, and they are chromey because of their reflective shimmery glass-like flecks? I think? I don't even know, juST LOOK AT THEM OKAY.

Mentality Jelly Chromes

I know so pretty and angelic and springy and shimmery and hard to explain right?? Who needs words, here's some more pics.

Alright, specs!

Swatch conditions:

First up, Blast! Described as a "green matte jellychrome with glass flecks that shifts red-purple, red, orange, to yellow", I'd say it has a more predominant pink-purple shimmer to hit when it hits the light, but okay! Either way it's a token seafoam green with iridescent pink-purple shimmer that everyone needs in their collection. Formula was smooth and wondrous, as with the others in the collection (or at least the three I have here for ya).

Next up, Shindig, which is pretty much Blast's baby blue springtime twinsie. It's described as an "aqua matte jellychrome with glass flecks that shifts red, orange, yellow, to yellow-green". Looks pretty blue to me, like an aqua-learning blue I guess, and it has the same pink-purple iridescent shimmer throughout. Love this one one too ahhhhh!! Mermaids are rejoicing in a magical cave filled with shimmering sea weed right about now.

Last up, to round out the sea creatures colours, we've got Hoopla, a vibrant pink jelly chrome. She's described as "red toned pink matte jellychrome with glass flecks that shifts blue-green, blue, violet, to red". Red-toned, what?? Isn't pink by nature red-toned?? lmao. Whatever, IT'S PRETTY LET'S NOT ARGUE.

Overall I loved these three polishes and their consistency makes me think this whole collection is a hit! They are definitely unique and shimmer like nothing else I've seen before in a translucent multi-dimensional jelly kind of way. They even work well over white as you can see on my accent nail! You can get these and even more colours including Mentality's dark jelly chrome line called the 'Tetrachromes' from Harlow & Co., their main international distributor! Something new today! How's about some simple white and orange nails, inspired by a new app I've been using to organize my nail polish collection! Snupps is a free app available for both iOS and Android, and it's basically like virtual shelves where you can catalog pictures of anything that you'd to keep track of, like all your nail polish! This way, next time you're drooling down the nail polish aisle at Rite Aid or Shoppers Drug Mart (pick a country), you can check on your app if you already have that nail polish, or at least a similar one. Check out my account and shelves here :)

Onto the nails! I used orange and white polishes blue some loose iridescent orange glitters from Twinkled T - you can use my exclusive code SIMPLY for 10% off!

3MIN-ISH VIDEO TUTORIAL:

My inspiration was pretty straight forward - orange and white inspired by the Snupps app minimalist colour scheme, a plus sign for the 'add item' function symbol, an S logo on my thumb, and of course I just had to make it me by adding GLITTER WHEREVER POSSIBLE YAAAASSS.

I have over 20 of Twinkled T's glitter drop bottles right now (have you SEEN my latest loose glitter nail porn?) and I'm pretty much obsessed with them. So naturally I include them wherever I need a little extra sparkle. The glitter drops are only $5.50USD per bottle and you can see they're pretty huge!! I don't think you would even run out if you did 100 glitter placement manis with the same glitter bottle. MOAR NAIL ART MOARRRR I'm on a roll guys, maybe it's all the crack lines of glitter I did last week, can't be sure. The theme of week's weekly nail art challenge (WNAC) that I co-host on Instagram along with lovely ladies Kristin of Lacquerstyle and Tracey of MissBellaTracey is half moon + neon! This is a relatively simple mani compared to my usual tendency to over complicate everything. But I did add a tiny bit of Twinkled T loose glitter sooooooooo it's still me (use my code SIMPLY for 10% off your orddahhhh!)

I used a gorgeous creamy neon Models Own polish named 'Shades' plus a white Color Club polish that goes by 'French tip' - you can grab them both from Live Love Polish! Oh hey there people who actually read my blog! I've been sick all week so that's my excuse for no posts (I dunno what my excuse is for every other week before this though... crap). But here, have some neon! This week's weekly nail art challenge (WNAC) that I co-host on Instagram along with lovely ladies Kristin of Lacquerstyle and Tracey of MissBellaTracey is neon + tribal. So I went with my strange interpretation of the theme as always.

My most important discovery during this neon adventure was how awesome Models Own 'polish for tans' polishes are!! They are are super neon and they were completely opaque after one coat of SPONGING!!! Which is like amazing, cause if you recall in my Peel Off Face Off video where I used Color Club pastel neons, it took me 4-5 coats of sponging to get the gradient opaque. I highly recommend these Models Own neons, they are amazeeeeballllls.

Neon nails again! This time a bit more bad ass-ey, with some black glitterness going on here. This week's weekly nail art challenge (WNAC) that I co-host on Instagram along with lovely ladies Kristin of Lacquerstyle and Tracey of MissBellaTracey is neon + fishtail. I'm not even sure this is a fishtail mani... braid? Herringbone? Whatever, I'm pretending it's all the same.

I used three gawwwwgeous summer-ready neon polishes from Live Love Polish, and NARS 'Night breed' on top. I used stripe nail vinyls from Twinkled T to give me those clean lines, I chose these slightly thicker ones than striping tape to allow more of the pretty gradient underneath to show. I totally realize it's a hard-to-decipher-design, okayyyy. I didn't think it would turn out so confusing but maybe one day I'll try and intentionally do a design that looks like those colour blind tests, and not one that just resembled it by accident, teehee.

Powder Perfect: Holos from the Hardwicke collection

Introducing a brand new to me, Powder Perfect! They hail from Australia (why is it so many excellent polishes come from AU, why?!?) and today I've got three polishes from their latest release, the Hardwicke collection (consisting of a total of 9 polishes). But look, HELLLOOO HOOOLOOO HOW I'VE MISSED YOU.

First up, a couple bottle shots!

Swatch conditions:

First up, The Crossroads! It's a rich warm brown, almost like milk chocolate, with linear holo throughout. This was three thin smooth-as-melted-chocolate coats. It's described as an earthy holographic polish with bronze flakes and small glitters, and I'm totally seeing those tiny flakies! They look like little bits of warm chocolate nougat or something and now I'm just hungry. Brb going to drug store...

Next up, Borders of the Forest is described as a forest green with blue-green micro flakes and a holographic effect. This one took three coats, the last one being somewhat thick, I found this polish a tiny bit on the sheer side but it goes on so smooth that you wouldn't even be bothered with applying four coats because it looks like two coats! I just love the added green shimmer in this polish, it's like BAM that forest is sparkling some mad vampires!

Finally, last and definitely my FAV of the three here, Dust & Shadows is a described as a dark purple polish with a sparkling holographic flame. It's so royal purple the Queen can eat my shit!! Blurple's/indigos are always difficult to capture (shit nail artists say much?) but this one actually photographed beautifully for some magical reason. This gawwwwgeous vivid purple holo was opaque in three thin coats.

On my accent nail I did a quick gradient of all three Powder Perfect polishes, then added a triangle with black acrylic paint, followed by a bit of glitter placement with holo gold hex loose glitter from Twinkled T! You can grab some of this epic glitter yourself from their shop and use my code SIMPLY for 10% off, YAAAY!

Overall I really loved these holos, their formula was silky smooth and the colours were very much my style (evil, dark and holo, duh!!) The purple was my absolute fav cause WOW that's one vivid holo flame. I definitely recommend this brand after having experienced these, and I plan to try on some more Powder Perfect in the future!

You can grab Powder Perfect polishes direct from their online shop if you're in Australia, otherwise check out their stockists page to see where you can get some locally. My fav online shop for US & Canadian customers Live Love Polish will be stocking them soon! Shhhh I'm not supposed to tell you till they launch, BUT WHATEVER YOLO
